On Saturday 2nd April Rugby Youth Badminton Squad rounded off the 2021/22 season with a number of tournaments.
The young beginners competed in a round robin event with Gagana Pendyala winning a close final, 11 points to 10, against Ronav Sakthirajan, with Harsha Yalamanchili coming third. A round robin tournament was also held for the 12.30 session. Bhavesh Gunturi and Lauren Smith won all their games in their respective groups and then played a close fought final with Lauren coming out on top 11-9. Anish Naladala beat Sheryl Suresh Babu to take third place.
In the junior ladder tournament Anand Desai won all his games to win the trophy. Second place had to be decided on points with Nikhil Paladugu just edging out his brother Chanukya by 4 points. Nikilan Kuruparan and Andre Barnett both won games and contributed to an exciting contest.
In the intermediate group Saaketh Parvath won all his games to take home the Mark Gallagher Memorial Trophy. Lauren Tosh was the runner-up losing only to the eventual winner. Just 9 points separated Shayni Mistry, Nihal Singamsetty, Sriram Chakka and Sankeerth Nalagatla who played some keenly fought games.
Dylan Mistry won all his games to take the Gloria Hudson Rosebowl awarded to the winner of the senior ladder. There were numerous long and exciting rallies but he always managed to come out on top. Hollie Duckett played well to take second place from Ruby Slatcher.
All contests were played in a good spirit, with players giving their all.
Awards for the Most Improved player in each of five groups were presented to Ellie Hetherington, Nikilan Kuruparan, Lauren Smith, Nihar Sankaran and Hollie Duckett.
Returning as a visitor, Audrey Deeley presented trophies, medals and certificates, alongside head coach John Richards.
