Rugby Youth Badminton Squad said farewell to its coach, secretary and webmaster, John Wardropper in December 2023. John had been involved with the club since the 1990s under its former name, Rugby Schools Badminton Squad. Originally the club started at Bilton High School on Saturday mornings until it relocated to its present home at Harris School Sports Centre.
John was a dedicated volunteer whose attention to detail and meticulous planning was admirable. His enthusiasm for badminton has helped many young people to develop their skills and go on to enjoy the sport with numerous being selected at Junior County level, some of them progressing to Senior County. Others have continued to play at local clubs and/or undertaken coaching qualifications.
John also represented Juniors as Youth Officer and Webmaster until he stepped down at Rugby District Badminton Association AGM.
His enjoyment of the sport continues as he plays socially at Crescent Badminton Club and we hope this will carry on for many more years! We wish him well in his retirement from his coaching.
